As we approach our 30s and 40s one of the first signs of ageing that many notice are the hollows around our eyes also known as the tear trough. This can make us look tired and fatigued. At Rejuvence Clinic we have a proven track record in the treatment of the tear trough with dermal fillers. Our specialist expertise in platelet rich plasma (PRP) allows us to combine this with fillers, similar to what others have called a 'vampire facelift', to produce outstanding results that will restore the lustre of your gaze and help to reinvigorate the smooth youthful lines of your face.
Facial ageing is a three-dimensional process involving the skin, underlying fat, muscle and bone. Areas around the eyes are often the first regions of the face to demonstrate the early signs of ageing.
As we age changes in the skin mean that the amount of collagen and elastin in the dermis (deep layer) of the skin reduces. The collagen and elastin that remains is often disorganised. This results in thinning of the skin and alongside a reduction of hyaluronic acid content wrinkles and fine lines begin to develop. This is particularly the case for the areas around the eyes.
Around the lower eyelid there is a complex arrangement of parcels of fat. During the ageing process these parcels of fat lose volume and essentially become deflated. Ligaments that bind these parcels of fat also begin to stretch and become lax. This all leads to a sagging effect of depleted fat parcels. Hence an indentation of appears between the lower eyelid the cheek. This area is defined as the tear trough.
