LED Light Therapy for Acne

Spots and acne are very common, but they can also be very hard to treat. Although some people find that simple over the counter creams and gels can work wonders, other people suffer from spots that won’t respond to any of the conventional treatments. Medication is available that can sometimes help with these more severe cases, but there can be unwelcome side effects such as irritation and sensitivity to sunlight. LED light therapy provides an alternative treatment for acne that can be very effective.

Tackling Acne

Spots form when the pores of your skin become clogged and inflamed. The problem can be exacerbated by certain kinds of bacteria that can make their home in the blocked pores. Acne can also be worsened by hormonal imbalances, particularly during puberty or at certain points of the menstrual cycle in women. Your genes can also play a role in the likelihood of developing severe acne. The complex causes of acne mean that it can be very hard to find a treatment that works. An effective treatment needs to be able to deal with both the causes of acne and its effects. It should be able to eliminate the irritating bacteria and to calm the redness and irritation that forms spots on your skin.

Treating Acne With Light

LED light therapy can tackle both aspects of acne very successfully. The red and near-infrared wavelengths that are used during the treatment can help to reduce inflammation. Meanwhile, the bacteria that are contributing to the problem can be eliminated using the antibacterial properties of blue light. LED light therapy has proven to be very effective at treating acne, particularly when a combination of wavelengths is being used. You should begin to see an improvement in your skin fairly quickly, although it can take a series of treatment in order to see the full effects.
