What are Lip Lines?
Attractive lips are considered to be fuller, especially the lower lip. As we age both the upper and lower lips tend to lose volume and definition. Your smile tends to get wider and narrower. The border of the upper lip also gets less defined.
Ageing also results in thinning of the skin due to a reduction in collagen and elastin levels. There is also a reduction in hyaluronic acid. With a lifetime of talking, smiling and eating, fine lines and wrinkles appear either side of the lips. These lip lines are significantly worsened by smoking.
What are Marionette Lines?
Marionette lines are defined as indentation lines that develop either side of the corners of the mouth heading down towards the jawline. They are also the result of volume depletion of fat parcels as well as generalised sagging of skin and laxity of ligaments holding fat parcels in place.

Perioral skin rejuvenation can be undertaken using a variety of treatment approaches. Initially a skin health restoration program based on the ZO skin range is recommended. This will improve skin function and can be followed up with a chemical peel or a few sessions of micro needling and platelet rich plasma. Deep lip wrinkles can be smoothed out with dermal fillers. Lip volume can be restored with hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. Definition can be given to the white roll of the upper lip and cupids bow can be re-emphasised. In addition filler can also be used to successfully improve the marionette lines either side of the corners of the lip.
